BEIZA: A 200-YEAR-OLD OLIVE OIL STORY

The story of Beiza began with Sakızcı Ahmet Efendi in the village of Mandalyat (Selimiye) in Milas in the 1800s. It has become a long-lived story like the olive tree, in which five generations fit. Sakızcı Ahmet Efendi fell in love with the vast olive groves of the Aegean, bought olive groves around Selimiye and entered the olive and olive oil business. When he passed away, he left the olive business to his daughter Şefika Hanım.

LARGE FAMILY, BIG HOUSE, EIGHT THOUSAND TREE

Şefika Hanım married Ali Faik Bey, the son of one of the prominent families of Milas.  Ali Faik Bey was fond of his family, so he bought a big house in Milas where he would live with his wife and five siblings. The Levantine style, seven-room, one-floor, 400 square meter house was built in the 19th century by Hungarian craftsmen from Rhodes. When the Jewish family living in it decided to settle in Israel, the house was sold to them. Years later, this house took its place in the cultural inventory of Milas. Extended family, big house, united with the abundance of olives. Şefika Hanım expanded her olive oil business, the number of trees they owned exceeded eight thousand.

WOMEN CARRY THE OLIVE OIL FLAG

Even though it was a man who started the olive oil business, that strong bond with the olive trees has been maintained by the women in the family for generations. Şefika Hanım handed over the olive oil business to her daughter Saniye, and then Saniye handed over this business to her daughter Sumru. The women proudly carried the flag they received from Sakızcı Ahmet Efendi, without dropping it until the 2000s. They sold the unique olive oil they obtained from the legendary Memecik olive of Milas to their relatives.

THE BRAND BORN IN THE FIFTH GENERATION

The step that will carry the family tradition to the next generations was again taken by a woman, in 2021. Beyza Telatar Özdoğru decided to brand the 200-year-old story. She founded “Beiza” which leaves a mark on the palate with its significant taste, smell and its story.

Mrs.Beyza is the daughter of Akgün Telatar, who came to Istanbul to study from Rize, Pazar and became a lawyer, and Sumru Hanım from Milas, who preferred to work as a teacher even though she studied Law. Mrs.Beyza was born in Istanbul, she graduated from Galatasaray High School and Istanbul University, Department of Economics in English. She started her career at Koç Unisys, and after marrying one of her colleague, Çağatay Özdoğru, she turned to the pharmaceutical industry. While working at Eczacıbaşı İlaç, she gave birth to her eldest son Kaan, in 1997 and Ali, in 2000. She retired after 10 years as a manager at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

THE NAME OF THE UNIQUE TASTE is BEIZA

The love of olive oil that Mrs. Beyza carried in her genes enabled her to return to business life as an entrepreneur. From her childhood until she had her own home, every house she lived in had a 5-liter "untitled" olive oil cans. Throughout her life; she wanted this unique flavor -that everyone who tasted it was addicted- to have a name and a bottle that could be put nicely on the dining table.

The transformation of Memecik and Trilye olives, which are gently picked without touching the soil, into “Beiza” in dark chic bottles after being carefully pressed in a hygienic environment, emerged as a result of this dream. The unique flavor that five generations have brought to the present day with much effort, patience and love for 200 years, is now on the dining tables with the "Beiza" brand of Mrs. Beyza.

With the word "care" in every step, "goodness" in every drop...
